Text and image…

So far I’ve posted quite a few photographs up here. As a matter of fact, I can promise you they’ll continue to be a staple of this blog until the day I decide to stop updating it. This is because photography is one of my very favorite things, and it’s been part of my life for years.

When you’ve been doing something for a long time sometimes you develop certain patterns and specific ways of accomplishing things. While it’s good to have a bag of tricks and develop a personal style, you don’t want to get stagnent. Well, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this blog is all about taking risks and trying new things. I can’t say that today’s project breaks any new creative ground, but it is something I’ve never tried before.

Today, while surfing the web, I came across this photoshop tutorial. It’s a project that combines text and image to produce something pretty cool. I decided to use it to do today’s self-portrait. I feel pretty good about what developed (photography pun!). Why not try it for yourself and let me know how yours turns out?

Hand drawn lettering…

I’d really like to learn more about hand drawn lettering, so today I did a bit of research. There’s a ton of great tutorials and inspiration to be found with a bit of searching, and today I’ll share a couple of cool things that I came across.

Here’s a short video I found on youtube which demonstrates how to draw a shape relief alphabit.

I also found a website with a series of tutorials all about creating illustrative lettering. I’m really looking forward to working through some of these. Visit Site

Lastly, I came across the website of illustrator Nate Williams. I really like his style and he really likes doing hand drawn typography. His site is a great source of inspiration. Visit Site
